And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Was that July that just happened? Wha-?!?
July started out well enough with a family vacation that was quite enjoyable—most of our family vacations are—but this one was particularly nice. Jackie, courtesy of her sister's in-laws, arranged for us to stay at a house just a block up from "downtown" Lincoln City and just a few blocks from the beach. The house was just perfect for all of us. We weren't quite sure who all would turn up until the day before the week began. It ended up being Mom and Dad, who came over from Portland; Grandpa and me—we drove up from Medford—Brant and Jackie, down from Seattle; and the Fun Squad (Seth, April, Adalie, Kylia, and Zoie), who joined us at the tail-end of their extended vacation with April's family. Uncle Steve lives in Lincoln City and so he was able to drop-in several times a day during our stay.
The boys went deep sea fishing and brought back some delicious salmon. I wanted to fillet the salmon on the deck like we did in Klemtu, but someone at the dock in Depoe Bay had cleaned and filleted them already. Besides that, mom thought that the Prunks wouldn't really appreciate the railing of their deck being used to fillet fish. I could see her point. ;-)
Hanging out on the beach was very fun. The first morning, Adalie and I took a walk to the beach before every one else got up. We explored some tidal pools and even found a starfish.
The weather was beautiful and warm. There was lots of swimming in the ocean, playing in the sand, and tidal pool exploring. This particular section of the beach allowed cars to drive onto the beach, so one night we drove down and made a campfire, which was lovely.
The Dadoo took Brant, Jackie and me golfing on the 5th. It was fun, except we were surprised about the dress code (collars required). Dad thought that only Southerners were snotty about golf dress code, but apparently the Oregon Coast golf community is not immune from a little dress code snobbery. Nevertheless, we had a good time.
At the end of the week, Grandpa and I drove back down to Medford and I back to Talent. We took the 101 down the Coast until just past Florence and then cut in to hit the 5 at Sutherlin. I hadn't driven down that way in a really really long time! I think it's been a least 15 years, if not 20. I'd really like to explore some of those towns, Yachats in particular.
So go enjoy those pictures. Happy Friday.
