Asleep?

Not exactly, though I am exhausted.

Just got through a slew of web design favors, best guesses, and out-of-the-goodness-of-my-heart volunteer work these past 3 months and boy am I tired. (Of it.)

So I took my first step on a path that I've been eyeing for at least 10 years: I took an intro to relaxation massage class last Saturday. Next step? Submit an online FAFSA and an application to East-West College of the Healing Arts. (I'm undecided as yet about July or September enrollment.)

It would mean putting my schedule on the Atkins-South-Beach-Jenny-Craig-Weight-Watchers diet of all time, but that, as everyone around me knows, is long overdue.

Mediation and massage, you say? Well it's all about peacemaking and healing. And that's a good direction for me to take, I think. Good for me, good for others, and honoring the Trinitarian God. You won't find this path in any worship and community book out there, but we all know that what pastors and leaders are reading ain't nearly all of what needs to be known. So when I get on the other side of this or at least heart-deep in it, maybe I'll be the one to write that book. ;-)

I checked out your blog from the link on Dan's site... and what timing! Thank you so much for posting about the ClamXav free virus scanner. I'd JUST been talking to a gal at work, how we should be protecting our computers somehow (especially since I just got a brand new G5 to work on!). I think this will be the perfect solution. Did you get it loaded on your computer?
I set it up to do a scheduled scan once a week, but I'm wondering... will it check through everything, or do I have to specify what it should check? Have you figured that out?
Thanks again for the tip. I really appreciate it!
Congratulations on going for the relaxation massage courses- what a great choice! I'm sure your family is quite excited about the prospect of being your 'homework'.

Hi Christina - I'm glad you stopped by! I've downloaded it but got sidetracked before getting it running. :( I'll post about any tips or gotchas I discover when I get a chance. The main thing I would think it to make sure that you've set it up to check the ClamAV virus database on a regular basis (the manual says no more than once an hour) so that you've got the latest and greatest virus definitions in your scanner. It sounds like it transparently checks e-mail (if you're running an e-mail program on your computer...web-based e-mail is a different matter). If there's a way to make sure you've told it what mail program you're using, I would do that. My other concern is iChat and I'm wonder how it handles file transfers done in iChat and other Instant Messaging programs.

So lots-a questions to explore. Maybe next week I'll get a chance to dive in a bit and give it the ole' test drive. =)

And - thanks for the congrats. Yeah, this is one career move I think I'll get very little family resistance about! =)

Hi again!
I ran the program while I was gone for lunch (an hour) and selected it to scan all items on my harddrive. When I got back it was STILL running. I'm not sure if it's supposed to take that long, but I set it up to scan late tonight so hopefully it'll be done when I come into work tomorrow.
I'm really not familiar with virus scan programs AT ALL, so hopefully I'm doing this right.
I'll check back next week to see if you've figured out any tricks. Thanks again!

It will probably be a lot easier for people to submit to mediation if their relaxed :) Tense people do not make good compromisers ha ha ha
