so, when at the lego store, is it cheating if you lock the lego's together before putting them in the cup? or is just assumed one should do this?

definitely not cheating...
they encourage you to do whatever it takes to get the most legos possible.
i have spent 45 minutes there before packing legos strategically, as to get the maximum value.
locking together isnt necessarily the best strategy, though, in my opinion.
